Character based off of the older woman I saw at the library A woman walked past me at the library. She was in her late 60’s with silver hair in a unique haircut. Blunt bangs with a short, angled bob. She had a slight stiffness about her walk, a hip injury from when she fell off a horse years ago. She is short, barely 5 feet tall. She stands upright, carrying herself with confidence. Her bold sunglasses, clearly designer, show she has style and pizazz. When she talks, she gets straight to the point. To some this comes across as rude and offensive, but she just hates wasting time with formalities. Her laugh is surprisingly gentle, revealing crinkly lines around her eyes when she takes off her big sunglasses. Her lips are just a thin line with a touch of red lipstick. Not done in a tacky fashion, On her it looks timeless and natural. Her name is Susan, named after Susan B Anthony. She was raised to be a fierce, independent woman despite being born into 1950’s America. While all her friends were getting married and having kids, she was an army nurse treating veterans from Vietnam. She got involved with one man in particular, an officer named Stan. Their affair was passionate, but short lived. She had left the army and traveled to spain where she realized she was pregnant. She had her baby, a girl she named Rose. She wrote a series of memoirs about her time in Spain as a single mother. She moved from writing memoirs to writing novels. She made quite a bit of money as a romance writer, and bought a cute little house in the avenues across the street from a library. She married a librarian, a younger man, at age 55. She now spends her days reading, writing, and gardening. |
